Pressure Rating

Permissible Operating Water Pressure — SDR 11 (psi)

Rated for water; a safety correction factor (typically 1.6 for compatible chemicals) applies for chemical service — consult Asahi/America engineering for the specific chemical recommendation. A 0.8 system reduction factor applies for aboveground installation influences (welding, joints, flange, bending loads); 1.0 for below-ground.

Installation & Testing

Installation Requirements

Welding methods

Butt fusion (two beads, 360° around the joint), socket fusion (full insertion), and electrofusion (full insertion) are all approved. Hot gas and extrusion welding are explicitly not allowed for wetted components.

Chemical service derating

Pressure tables are rated for water. A safety correction factor applies for chemical service — typically 1.6 for compatible chemicals on PE100-RC, but Asahi/America engineering must be consulted for the specific chemical recommendation.

Installation reduction factor

A 0.8 system reduction factor applies for aboveground installation (welding, joints, flange, and bending load influences); 1.0 applies for below-ground installation.

Testing

Pressure systems are hydrostatically tested to 1.5× operating pressure per ASME B31.3 Chapter VII Part A345. Non-pressure systems are tested to 10 ft of H2O or less.

Warranty

One year from substantial completion, for installations lasting no longer than one year. Asahi/America is not responsible for failures due to installation error or neglect.

Real Installation

2015 Semiconductor OEM — Caustic Service Replacement

1/2" Chem Proline spool pieces, including custom-machined tube fitting adapters, replaced failing CPVC pipe spools in 50% sodium hydroxide (caustic) service for a semiconductor OEM. The replacement was fitted to the OEM's existing enclosure without a redesign — a real, sourced installation demonstrating Chem Proline's fit for aggressive chemical service in a semiconductor manufacturing environment.

Applicable Codes & Standards

System design meets ASME/ANSI B31.3 Chapter VII for design criteria where temperature and pressure fall within code limits.

FAQ

Chem Proline Advanced PE Piping FAQs

What is Chem Proline Advanced PE piping made from?

PE100-RC resin (ASTM D3350 cell class PE445586C), manufactured by AGRU Kunststofftechnik GmbH in Bad Hall, Austria — the spec sheet names AGRU as the sole approved source, "no equal." It carries a Minimum Required Strength classification of MRS 10 per ISO 9080.

What is the pressure rating for Chem Proline piping?

SDR 11 pipe is rated to a minimum of 150 psi at 68°F (20°C) for water, for all diameters 1/2"–12" (20mm–315mm), based on a 50-year continuous service life. Pressure rating decreases with temperature and required service life — see the full permissible-pressure table on this page. A chemical-service derate factor (typically 1.6 for compatible chemicals) must be applied separately.

Is Chem Proline piping H2 (hydrogen) ready?

Yes — SDR 11 Chem Proline pipe and fittings have been tested and confirmed by the DVGW Test Laboratory Energy of DBI-GTI for permeation and tightness, qualifying as H2 Ready.

What welding methods are approved for Chem Proline?

Butt fusion (two beads, full 360° around the joint), socket fusion, and electrofusion are all approved, provided installers are trained per ASME NM.1, ASTM D2657, AWS B2.4, and/or DVS 2207. Hot gas and extrusion welding are explicitly disallowed for wetted components.

Has Chem Proline been used in a real semiconductor installation?

Yes — a documented 2015 project: 1/2" Chem Proline spool pieces, including custom-machined tube fitting adapters, replaced failing CPVC pipe spools in 50% caustic service for a semiconductor OEM, fitted to the OEM's existing enclosure without a redesign.
