The Fab-Grade Vendor Qualification Checklist

12 questions that separate a real high-purity/process-safety vendor from a catalog reseller — before you find out the hard way, 6 months into a build. Vendor-agnostic — run it on anyone.

Inside the Checklist

One Question Per Line, One Real Answer Required

Every question maps to a real industry standard, not a marketing claim. Score "yes" only when they hand you the actual document.

Section 01

Purity & Certification

SEMI F57/F41 test and qualification data, real ppb/ppt contamination numbers, a named semiconductor/high-purity customer, ISO 14644-1 cleanroom proof, and current ISO 9001 certification.

Section 02

Safety & Quality Documentation

The reactivity, compatibility, and dust-characteristic data your HAZOP/HAZID/DHA team actually needs — plus lot traceability, on-site audit access, and a documented CAPA process.

Section 03

Commercial & Engagement Discipline

Documented RFI/RFP/RFQ process, real lead-time and warranty commitments on critical wetted components, and design-phase engagement instead of retrofit risk.

Bonus

A Simple 3-Tier Self-Score

9–12 yes = Shortlist-Ready. 5–8 = Needs More Documentation. 0–4 = Red Flag. Plus a hard-gate rule so soft answers can't fake a passing score.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is SEMI F57 and why does it matter for a piping/tubing vendor?

SEMI F57 is the industry specification for extractable-metals and ionic-purity testing on polymer materials and components used in ultrapure water and liquid chemical distribution systems. A vendor with real SEMI F57 data has actually tested their wetted components for contamination — a vendor without it is asking you to take their purity claim on faith.

What is the difference between SEMI F57 and SEMI F41?

SEMI F57 tests individual polymer materials and components. SEMI F41 is a system-level qualification guide for a complete Bulk Chemical Distribution System (BCDS) — it applies when a vendor is scoping the whole distribution system, not just supplying a component.

Why does ISO 14644-1 cleanroom classification matter for a fabrication facility?

ISO 14644-1 defines cleanroom classes (ISO 1–9) by airborne particle concentration. Components for high-purity or semiconductor-adjacent service are typically fabricated in ISO Class 1–7 cleanrooms — a vendor fabricating in a general industrial shop, not a classified cleanroom, introduces contamination risk before the part ever ships.

Can a vendor supply hazard-analysis data without performing the hazard analysis themselves?

Yes — and this is an important distinction. A qualified equipment vendor supplies the reactivity, compatibility, and material data your own HAZOP/HAZID/DHA team needs to complete its review. Running the hazard analysis itself is the buyer’s process-safety team’s job, not the vendor’s.

What does a 0-4 "Red Flag" score on this checklist actually mean?

It means the vendor answered most of the 12 questions with a verbal claim instead of a real document — no SEMI/ISO data, no named reference, no CAPA process shown. That pattern is a leading indicator of documentation and quality-system gaps that tend to surface later, during commissioning or a compliance audit.

Already Know Who Scores Full Marks?

Three Manufacturers We Represent Score Full Marks Against This Checklist

Asahi/America (Class 1000 cleanroom-fabricated PVDF piping, named references at Intel, Micron, and NEC), GF Piping Systems (Intel's 2023 EPIC Distinguished Supplier Award, TSMC's 2022 Excellent Performance Award, named customers ASE Co. Ltd. and ams-OSRAM), and Pexco/Altaflo (SEMI F-57/C-90 certified UHP PFA tubing, already sold into a real semiconductor account).
